I am in the midst of searching for a dress for my cousin’s
wedding next month…and to say it’s been tough is an understatement! It’s
‘Murphy’s Law’, as my Mam always says, when you need to find something but you
can’t – you would fall in love with something if you weren’t looking – or in my
case, have no cash! Then there’s the tense subject of ‘who’s wearing what
colour?’. I never viewed this as a barrier to buy an outfit as customisation
and jewelry are magical things to channel uniqueness but apparently it is…It
would be ‘frowned upon’ if I, or any of the other guests, wear cobalt blue. The
Mother of the Bride has chosen it. And seeing as dark colours suit me I’m in
somewhat of a predicament!
As luck would have it I found a dress in Coast while I was
home in Ireland
surprising my friend for her 21st birthday. Typically, the dress in
question was electric blue. However, it was deemed ‘inappropriate’ as a
strapless dress would not sit well in church…according to my Mother that is.
For that reason, and the colouring, meant the dress had to sit the remainder of
its life on the rails until someone else discovered its beauty.
After weeks of searching, Warehouse saved my soul and
produced an immaculate range of occasion summery dresses - which left me battling with
my inner demons and having to choose between not one dress, but three…when it
rains it pours!
I chose on the opposite end of the colour spectrum so as not
to conflict with orders – an elegant coral-pink floor length gown (see left) and an orange lace panelled prom dress (see above). The third dress, being a floaty multicolour cross halter-neck was an unavoidable buy as it was on sale (I am a bargain hunter junkie!). This was purchased on the pretense for the post-wedding celebrations - it is an Irish wedding after all! After much deliberating, two
friend’s faithful opinions, and the store holding both dresses for 24 hours, I
reached a decision – how often do we really get to wear floor length dresses?
The decision was inevitable J
